Ivy Martin is the mermaid of our dreams. She’s far from Ariel, though. Ivy is from Mad City, a badass with a great sense of humor, freak athlete and student of life. Ivy started swimming at the YMCA on the East when she was just 6 years old. Her older sister Ruby is a swimming champion, as is her younger sister Maddie. Da gills run in the family. Shout out a fellow middle child.
The brain went on to study Sociology and Psychology at the “Public Ivy” University of Wisconsin – Madison. Not only was she a 16-time All American and Wisconsin Female Athlete of the Year at UW, but she’s been competing in other National competitions since 2012. First it was the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, NE. Then she did the World Championship Trials in Indianapolis, IN and US Open in 2013.
Her performance at the 2014 Phillips 66 Nationals earned her a spot at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships in Australia. After that, Ivy signed with A3 Performance in 2015. She stayed with her college coach to train, and proceeded to the Santa Clara Pro Series in June 2015 and recently competed in the Olympic Trials in Summer 2016.
Ivy said in an interview preceding the Trials:
“In swimming there’s so much pressure on becoming an Olympian. When you get to be an elite swimmer that’s like if you make the Olympics that kind of defines your career. I don’t necessarily think that that’s the right way to think about it, but I just think it would be really cool to add to the accomplishments that I’ve already had in my career.”
I love the attitude. Ivy Martin is a winner. She has a brilliant style and personality worth repping. The all natural beauty looks like she’d be fun as hell to road trip with, and dear lawd is she beautiful. That body deserves to be admired.
